Creative Writing Workshops- From Studio to Text Writing About Dance for Opportunities

From Studio to Text: Writing About Dance for Opportunities

A three-part workshop on writing applications for festivals, grants, residencies, and open calls for dance artists.

In the independent dance world, the ability to speak about artistic work through text is an inseparable part of the creative process. Festivals, funding bodies, residency programs, and cultural institutions ask artists not only to create compelling work, but also to articulate it clearly, precisely, and convincingly.

Developed from the intersection of my work as an independent choreographer, writer, and editor, the workshop offers practical tools for writing the materials commonly required in the field: project descriptions, artist statements, biographies, and responses to application questions for festivals and grants in Israel and internationally.

Across three sessions, participants map the landscape of opportunities available to independent artists, explore what institutions are truly looking for in an application, and workshop their own writing through practical exercises, analysis of real application forms, group discussion, and feedback.

The workshop combines the perspective of an active independent artist with years of experience in writing, editing, and accompanying texts in the fields of dance and performance. It is intended for choreographers, dancers, dance students, and emerging artists interested in strengthening both their writing skills and professional confidence.
