Creative Writing at the Israel Festival! We’re so Creative Writing at the Israel Festival!

We’re so pleased to be present at this year’s festival with a special group of guest writers responding to works across the program.

First up, we’re very excited to welcome Anat Dreamer to Creative Writing with a guest post responding to Extras by Jonathan Ron.

Four performers reveal the behind-the-scenes reality of working as extras, and in particular, the task of dying on screen. Dreamer reflects on cinematic death, heroes and peripheral characters, and our complicated relationship with watching people die.

“The Duende climbs up inside you, from the soles o “The Duende climbs up inside you, from the soles of the feet.”

In her response to Adva Yermiyahu’s 'Alma Galbi', Heather DeAtley writes from inside an ongoing dance with grief about the moment flamenco, through rhythm, voice and movement, allowed that grief to finally permeate her body.

A deeply personal reflection on 'Alma Galbi', Ofra Haza, flamenco, cultural memory, and the mysterious force of Duende.

In her beautiful reflection on Wonder by Gil Kerer In her beautiful reflection on Wonder by Gil Kerer, Heather DeAtley draws a surprising connection between the performance and the Ilan Lev Method, asking what happens when movement becomes an invitation to curiosity rather than instruction.

"Wonder is as much a mindset as it is a moment."

If you've seen a performance at Tmuna Theater over the past decade, there's a good chance you've experienced his work.

A lighting designer, technician and performer, Matan has spent years illuminating stages. In this edition of Spotlight, we spoke about finding a creative home at Tmuna, turning backstage into performance, what good lighting can do for a piece and why the moments before the audience walks in are sometimes more dramatic than the show itself.

In the latest edition of Kids' Corner, Eden Kramer writes about Etai's Castle by Rachel Erdos.

Rather than offering fantasy worlds or fairy tales, 'Etai's Castle' gives shape to the everyday emotional landscape of childhood: frustration, curiosity, imagination, fear, family, and the feeling that sometimes you're simply... too much.
